Speech Language Pathologist – 1-year term with possibility of extension
What if your next Speech-Language Pathology role expanded both your practice and your horizon? Help a child find their voice, support a senior’s independence, and finish your day beside a northern lake instead of sitting in traffic
As a Speech-Language Pathologist in Yellowknife, you’ll work across the lifespan, supporting children, families, adults, and seniors with communication and swallowing needs. One morning might find you helping a preschooler communicate more confidently in the classroom. The afternoon could involve collaborating with physicians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, educators, and families to improve quality of life for an adult recovering from illness. You’ll manage your own caseload, provide assessments and intervention, travel to smaller northern communities, and build lasting relationships with the people you serve.
Unlike many highly specialized southern roles, this position offers the breadth of practice that allows you to use and grow your full clinical skillset. You’ll also have opportunities to contribute to culturally responsive care and learn from Indigenous communities and diverse language experiences across the North.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary: $106,158 – $126,809
- $3,700 Northern Living Allowance
- Paid relocation
- Opportunities to travel across Northwest Territories communities
Qualifications
· Knowledge of speech-language pathology assessment and treatment practices across the lifespan.
· Knowledge of rehabilitation principles, standards of practice, and relevant legislation.
· Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
· Sensitivity to cultural, social, gender, and age-related considerations in healthcare delivery.
· Ability to travel periodically to communities throughout the Northwest Territories.
Step outside your door and within minutes you can be walking the Frame Lake Trail, paddling the waters of Great Slave Lake, or watching curtains of green aurora dance across the night sky. Summer brings nearly endless daylight, community markets, and evenings at Folk On The Rocks. Winter transforms the city with Snowcastle, Long John Jamboree, frozen lake trails, and some of the best northern lights viewing on the planet. Indigenous cultures, traditions, and stories remain deeply woven into daily life, creating opportunities to learn from the people and communities who have called this region home for generations. With trails, ski routes, fishing spots, and wilderness beginning at the edge of town, adventure fits naturally into everyday life. If you’ve been looking for a place where your work is visible and your weekends start the moment you leave the office, Yellowknife may be waiting.
