Registered Midwife, Yellowknife
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a midwife.
I went on to train at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (part of the University of Hertfordshire) in England and qualified in 1993.
Following this, I spent several years working in both large University Teaching and Regional Hospitals in England and Wales, providing care to women in the hospital, community, in midwifery-led centres as well as supporting homebirths for mothers with low obstetric risk.
Prior to training as a midwife, I had already qualified as a Registered Nurse and over the years have gained broad experiences in various aspects of hospital nursing, family planning, sexual health, and primary health care.
I am blessed with a husband and four lovely daughters.
We immigrated to Canada in 2010, where I was able to complete the Multi-Jurisdictional Midwifery Bridging Programme which enabled me to work in Canada.
I enjoyed working as a Registered Midwife at the IWK Health Centre in Nova Scotia with a dedicated team of Midwives for a few years.
In my spare time, I enjoy being creative with papercraft, sugar craft, sewing and embroidery.
I appreciate and acknowledge the enormous work done by the initial midwives and other healthcare professionals to bring midwifery service to the people of NWT and feel privileged to be part of the growth of Midwifery in the Northwest Territory.
It is always a pleasure and privilege to participate in bringing a new life into the world and to have met many wonderful couples whose lives have enriched mine over the years, I look forward to serving the community with you all.
